Round 3 was held at Novar Gardens in fine conditions, although it was rather humid. The field of teams was a bit smaller than expected but there was no shortage of quality.
After a few upsets in Round 2, this round played out to a more familiar script. Taking home the gold medals were Alexi Alexi, Ha Nguyen & Van Nguyen with the silver going to Ray Drummond, Vincent Bulone & Haejung Jang – both teams from Eastern Suburbs. The bronze medals went to Adelaide’s Alain Rousse, Jean-Luc Gonnet & Dominique Pierre.
A maximum haul of 54 championship points has given ESP a bit of breathing space at the top of the premiership table, but second-placed Club d’Adelaide are still well in contention at the halfway mark of the season.
At the same time, things have got very tight in the middle. Adelaide Hills bounced back from their second round disappointments – regaining fourth place from Prospect and closing in on Novar Gardens. There are now just six points separating third from fifth, so anything could happen there. In contrast, there is a 27 point margin between 1st and 2nd, another 27 pts between 2nd and 3rd, 27 pts between 5th and 6th and, to complete the perfect symmetry, another 27 pts between 6th and 7th.
Thanks to the Novar Gardens club for providing your excellent facility and to all those who helped make the day possible.
