2021-2022 InterClub Competition Round 4 – Prospect Petanque Club – 29th May 2022

The penultimate SAPL Interclub round was held at Prospect with 29 teams in attendance. The weather was surprisingly pleasant – cool but fine with plenty of nice sunshine. After some ominous forecasts in the days leading up, we were fortunate that the approaching big storm waited until the evening before it hit.

The championship race has been very tight up to this point, with five clubs all jostling for the top positions. On this occasion, it was Eastern Suburbs who seized the initiative. With three teams finishing in the top six, the club has pulled away from the chasing pack and opened up a commanding lead at the top of the table. While not impossible, it would take something special from another club to catch them from here, with one round to go.Continue reading

2021-2022 InterClub Competition Round 3 – Eastern Suburbs Petanque Club – 27th March 2022

Round 3 was held at Eastern Suburbs, belatedly because of two COVID-related cancellations in the season so far. (Under normal circumstances, this would have been Round 5). The conditions were fine and sunny. The maximum temperature was only just over 30˚ but it felt quite hot in the sun, especially after such a mild summer.
The Interclub Championship is still well and truly up for grabs, with two rounds to go (under a revised schedule). However, there is one title that is already all but decided. The title of ‘most competitive season in the history of the competition’ must surely go to 2021/22. We’ve had some close finishes before, but this season so far has been extraordinary…

2021-2022 InterClub Competition Round 2 – Gawler Petanque Club- 28th November 2021

Round 2 was held in fine and sunny conditions at the Gawler Petanque Club. The turnout was lower than we’ve had for a couple of years, but a field of 22 teams was still more than enough for a great atmosphere and a strong contest. The round was notable for the fact that no team was able to get through all five games without loss – something that hasn’t happened in this competition for four years.
