Coming off the back of a major wet weather event, there were some doubts about whether Round 1 at ESP would be able to proceed. Fortunately, the rain stopped overnight – just in time. There was still some standing water, but, thanks to the efforts of some dedicated ESP volunteers, the number of lanes deemed unplayable was reduced to three, leaving the required number of 13 available for play. Even more fortunate, given the forecast of more cold, wet and windy conditions, was the weather on the day – much more comfortable than expected and no rain at all until 5pm, when all but one game had finished.

Round 5 was held in the South Parklands at Club d’Adelaide. It was a sunny day, but not too hot. Thankfully, after a long dry summer, some welcome rain a few days prior helped to dampen down the dust a little bit.

The sky was clear and the sun was fierce for Round 4, held at Stirling. Twenty-eight teams took part.
We’ve had some close contests this season, but this was one where a single team stood head and shoulders above the rest. On their way to collecting the gold medals, Van & Ha Nguyen and Deb Rodda put in a near faultless performance. They played all good quality opponents, including the teams that finished second and third, yet only two of their five victims were able to even register a point against them.
