2024-2025 InterClub Competition Round 2 – Gawler Petanque Club – 22nd September 2024

Round 2 was held at the Gawler Petanque Club in fine and mild conditions. Twenty-nine teams took part, breaking the attendance record for this venue that was set two years ago.

The battle for the day’s top honours was an incredibly tight one. In the fourth round play-offs between the four undefeated teams from the morning session, both games finished with a scoreline of 13:12. The two winners met in the fifth game and also took the score to 13:12. You don’t see that very often.

Ultimately, it was the tenacity of Brett Williams, Melissa Scott & Gavin Scott that prevailed, earning them the win and the first gold medals for a Prospect team for several years. The silver medals went to Novar Garden’s Jonathan Giddings, Ned Dally & Selina Dally, with Alain Rousse, Lionel Pujol & Dominique Pierre from Adelaide taking home the bronze.

The results from Round 1 might have seemed a bit predictable, along the lines of the previous season, but this time around things were a bit different. The two clubs that usually dominate proceedings, ESP and Adelaide, only had three teams in the top eight between them and neither featured in the top two. They both retained their positions, but now have Novar Gardens hot on their heels and just nine points shy of the ladder leaders. The other big mover was Prospect, who have jumped into fourth place ahead of a lacklustre Adelaide Hills. FAB had a successful day as well, with both of their teams scoring good points, and Gawler have also opened their account. This is shaping up to be an interesting season.

Thanks to the Gawler club for hosting the event and, despite the large crowd, ensuring that everything ran smoothly as usual.
