COME AND TRY PETANQUE DAY AT BORDERTOWN

On the 6th November 2022 I attended the first “Come and Try day” organised by the Bordertown Bowling Club who have decided to embark on the journey to incorporate Pétanque into the activities they offer.

I made a short speech and presented the club with some training booklets, some cochonnets and a trophy for them to use in the first tournament they organise. After the speech we gave them a demonstration of how to play and then got them all to play a game under the supervision of an experienced player. The attendees all appeared to be having fun and we hope that from this small beginning Pétanque will become a regular activity at Bordertown.

I was accompanied by Glenis and we were assisted by eight volunteers from Adelaide clubs; Neil Maslin from Adelaide Hills with his wife and dog, Jonathon Giddings, Gary Hosie, Justin Smith, Sue & Peter Matthews and dog and Jonny and Ian Forster and dog from Novar Gardens Pétanque Club.

Many thanks to Izzy Belluzo (Bowls SA Board member) and Greg Window (Bordertown Bowling President) and all the club members for their hospitality and a great day.

Stan Wilson, President – South Australian Petanque League.
