2026/27 SAPL Mixed Doubles Championship at: Prospect Pétanque Club 23 August, 2026

This year’s SA Mixed Doubles Championship was held at Prospect on a glorious sunny day that conveniently popped up between two extended bouts of rain.

The day started with a few upsets, as several of the most fancied contenders went down in the first round. Under the Swissish system, that meant a few of the other first round losers came up against a stronger opponent in Round 2 than they might have expected. However, the pecking order soon sorted itself out and the cream rose to the top by the end of the day.

Not surprisingly, the crème de la crème were the team who have made this event their own. Once again, Ha & Van Nguyen swept all before them to take their fourth title. They have played together in this event five times now. Along the way, they have won every game they’ve played with just one exception – the semi-final in their first appearance. That’s a pretty impressive record and one suspects there will be more to come.

This year’s runners up were Deb Rodda & Ken Maski. Deb is another player with a notable record here. The SA Mixed Doubles has been running for eleven years now and this is the seventh time that Deb has featured in the final.

Thanks to Brett Williams for taking on the umpiring duties and to the Prospect club and volunteers for hosting the day.
