The 2022/2023 SAPL Mixed Doubles Championship was held at Eastern Suburbs Pétanque Club on Sunday 30th April, 2023.
Twenty-eight teams competed in this year’s SA Mixed Doubles Championship, a record turnout for this event. The conditions were mild but damp, with a few light showers keeping a spring in the step of the newly refurbished Eastern Suburbs terrain.
By lunch time, only four teams had got through the first three rounds unscathed and these four went on to contest the semi-finals. Then it came down to this competition’s first final between two married couples and it was on for young and old.
At the end of it all, it was the youngest pair in the field, Ha & Van Nguyen, who took the title. This ticks off another box in their pétanque CV, adding to the state titles that they currently hold in Triples (Van) and Doubles (Ha). The runners-up trophies went to Miriam & Roland Peik.
Thanks to Peter Beaumont for taking on the umpiring duties and to ESP for hosting the day.
