After a frosty start, the 2016/17 State Singles Championships were held in cool but sunny conditions.

It was an evenly matched field of sixteen players that took to the pistes in the Open competition. No-one got through the preliminary rounds unscathed. In the absence of four-time Singles champion Lionel Chazal, the biggest question going into the day was whether Dominique Pierre could continue his run of consecutive state championship victories. Having already rewritten the record books, the only box left unticked for the reigning Singles, Doubles, Triples and Mixed Doubles champion was to claim all four titles within a single season. A win here would do it. However, all good things come to an end and that must remain a pinnacle as yet unclimbed.

The format used in the Open continues to mystify many but, like last year, it achieved its aims of bringing the cream to the top while keeping everybody else interested for as long as possible. Here, the role of the Round 6 games was particularly significant. This round was designed to correct any potential imbalance between the two pools in the original random draw. As it transpired, the top six players from Pool A all won their game against one of the top six players from Pool B, which would suggest that such a correction was definitely warranted in this case. Snake Cup at Prospect

‘Keeping the Tradition Alive’ was the theme for the 12th Annual Snake Cup at the Prospect Pétanque Club on 21 May 2017.

The event is in honour of Jake McKee who we unfortunately lost in a car accident at 18 years of age.  Jake was a prodigious pétanque talent who captained the Australian Pétanque Junior Team to the World Junior Championships in Lyon France in 2000.

Thirty Six Players were involved in this years event including the ‘Cream’ of South Australian Pétanque, Australian Champions, State Champions, and Australian National Team Representatives.

The standard of play was outstanding – in particular the Principale Final that went down to the wire, the last end was of incredible standard.

The winners –  Dominick Pierre, Thomas Heredia and Alain Rousse – played the most amazing final end every shot they played was of outstanding quality enabling them to surge to a great win.

This Cup has a tradition of encouraging the various levels of Pétanque by all our players with prizes being awarded to the winners and runners up in each division.

Consolante:  L.Pujol/V.McBride/D.Ward defeated M.Frodyma/J. Jenkin/T.Palmer 13-9.

Conviviale:  M. Verdonk/G.Ashmeade/B.Williams defeated A.Pietsch/S.Dally/G.Karklins 13-3.

A great day put on by the Prospect Club, lots of help behind the scenes, beaut food, great company,  challenging Pétanque all round equals an outstanding day.

SA State Interclub Competition – Round 5 held at Prospect 30 April, 2017

Round 5 of the Interclub competition was held at Prospect in fine and mild conditions.

In the previous round we had seen something of a comeback by second-placed Club d’Adelaide, to keep them in contention, but this time around it was championship leader Eastern Suburbs who reasserted their dominance of this season’s competition.

It may be the case that no more than two teams from a club can score points towards the championship, but when you get five teams in the top nine, including first, second and fourth, it doesn’t leave a lot of points for everyone else. The cream of the crop on the day were the highly-credentialled trio of Raja Jamaleddine, Sukrit Vaswani (fresh from his win in the Australian Open) and Craig Stewart.Continue reading→

2017 Snake Cup

The revised date for the postponed Snake Cup at Prospect Pétanque is Sunday 21 May.

It has replaced the schedule Committee Cup.
All of the conditions are the same with our $500.00 cash and Trophies prizes.

PFA Easter Festival of Pétanque

Pétanque Federation of Australia held it’s Easter Festival of Pétanque April 13-16.  The event consisted of a shooting competition, singles, doubles and triples.   Three SA players competed in the tournament: Dave Lefer, Sukrit Vaswani and Lionel Chazal, all from Eastern Suburbs Pétanque.

They came away from the event with great results.

Lionel Chazel is the new Australian Shooting Champion.  Sukrit and Lionel are the new Australian Doubles Champions, and Dave (playing with Mohamed Qabba fom NSW) finished 3rd.
