The Eastern Suburbs Pétanque Club will host the Trans-Tasman Challenge at Unley Park Sports Club, 8 Northgate Street, Unley Park over the weekend of 18 & 19 March 2017.
The challenge is an annual competition between national teams representing Australia and New Zealand and alternates between the countries. This is the first time the event has been held in South Australia.
“We lodged an expression of interest to host this tournament last year and we won the bidding” ESP President Alexi Alexi said “It promotes Adelaide and it provides excitement for the Kiwis and Australians to come and do battle here in Adelaide. “It is the only international pétanque tournament held in Australia.”
The event promises a great weekend of International competition.

Forty-eight players will compete in two sections – Open and Seniors (over 60). SA has three representatives in the 24 strong Australian team. Dominique Pierre, Rada Pierre and Wendy Bensen. Dominique, Rada & Wendy have won multiple state titles between them, additionally both Dominique and Wendy have won the Australian National Shooting Champion title.
Past, current and future Australian and NZ champions make up the teams. At this level, pétanque is a very competitive sport where tactics and skill are not only on display, but teamwork comes to the fore.
Members of the public are welcome come along, enjoy the weekend and support the teams of Australia will officially open the event from 8am on Saturday 18 March. Play will run from 9am to 5pm both days.
